YOUTH

INTERVENTION

EPIC adopted a strategy of youth intervention in the winter of 1996 with a group of young people, from the Greater Shankill area of Belfast, who were unattached to any other youth group.

The age range of this group was from 13-22 years old, and they all originated from socially and economically deprived backgrounds.  Some, though not all, were children of former and presently serving political prisoners.

During the course of 1999 other EPIC youth groups developed in North Ulster, Mid Ulster, East Belfast, North Belfast, and a second group in the Woodvale area of West Belfast.

These groups continue to meet and share experiences both with peers from within their own community and with young people from other communities.  Education through participation is a major factor in development of this group.
