EPIC
LOYALIST EX-PRISONERS N. IRELAND CONFLICT |
EPIC has taken responsibility and primacy of place to work for reintegration and transformation of political ex-prisoners who engaged in the violent conflict. As an integral part of this work we have undertaken extensive and intensive research into prison related issues. The predicaments, problems and concerns faced by ex-prisoners are barriers to reintegration and thus barriers to peace and reconciliation. EPIC research document number 2 comprises the following sections: A comprehensive overview of the many issues and concerns raised by the political ex-prisoners; Statistical data revealing the extent of the major areas for concern; An outline, prepared by a member of EPIC's Welfare Rights branch, of the main problems that department endeavours to assist with; A report prepared by American psychologist Helen Seline on the psychological repercussions of violent conflict and captivity; The text of a submission by EPIC to the government department responsible for N. Ireland on the theme: 'Reintegration of ex-combatants; towards peace and reconciliation'. This research was undertaken by Jim Crothers in his role as EPIC Research Officer and it is hoped that its content will contribute significantly to the healing process our long suffering society is now hopefully embarking upon.
