LOYALIST EX-PRISONERS N. IRELAND CONFLICT |
|
|
At the end of War most communities think peace is guaranteed. Sadly that is not the case in N. Ireland. The ceasefires, and post political agreement legacy left in our community is not one of post conflict, or indeed a societal thrust to heal the wounds. We find ourselves in the midst of non violent conflict were old scars are causing festering wounds - in some cases becauses it is politically expedient to do so for propaganda or/and political leverage. In other cases people are speaking out due to the relaxing of threat or intimidation. Deprived areas still visibly bear the destruction of violence. Trust has a long difficult journey to be embedded in our society. A culture of violence has to be eroded. Traumatic experiences need to be alleviated. Mental bridges need to be built across divided mind sets. |
